NYS Burn Ban: Starting March 16th thru May 14th |

| The annual New York State Burn Ban will be in effect from March 16 through May 14. This information is being shared in advance to allow residents sufficient time to prepare. Even when snow is present, the underlying dead grass and brush can dry out rapidly and catch fire. Spring winds can quickly cause a small blaze to grow out of control. Please refer to the graphic for specifics on permitted and prohibited activities. If you are uncertain, refrain from burning. For complete information, visit the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website (see below).
Open burning is the single greatest cause of wildfires in NYS. To report a wildfire, call 1-833-NYS-RANGERS (1-833-697-7264) or contact a forest ranger in your area ( https://dec.ny.gov/about/contact-us/forest-ranger-rosters ). When you plan a fire, always check for fire danger in your area on DEC's online map (updated every week- https://dec.ny.gov/environmental-protection/wildfires/fire-danger-map ). Also, local governments may have stricter rules than NYS; your fire department will have information about local burning laws.
